MEET THE TEAM

May Coyle

A little about May…

Before starting at the workshop as a Candidate Consultant in November 2023 I went travelling for 5 months, hopping around Thailand and Bali, before driving a campervan around the whole of New Zealand. When I returned to the UK I worked as Sales Supervisor/Shift Leader over the summer, and then briefly embarked on studying Psychology at University. But it wasn’t for me, and I decided I wanted to start working in a company I was passionate about and where I could gain practical experience.

Any qualifications you may have – or working towards?

I’m looking into starting my CIPD Level 3, with the view of doing my CIPD Level 5 in the future. I would also like to embark on a digital marketing course alongside it.

How (and why) did you get into recruitment?

I was signed up on the Work Shop’s books for temporary work during my gap year summer, and was approached by Georgina about the opportunity to join the company on a contract basis to work as an administrator. Over the course of the 3 months, I developed a real interest for recruitment and began taking on more responsibilities as Candidate Consultant. The role came very naturally to me as I love talking to people and problem solving.

What does your day-to-day role entail?

I am responsible for resourcing new candidates who have registered on the job boards. I carry out initial frontscreen, to gain an understanding of their current situation and motivations for looking for a new position. I work closely with the consultants to identify suitable candidates for positions – I also assist with the marketing for the company, and create campaigns for LinkedIn to engage new talent and clients.

What do you like best about recruitment/your job?

I thoroughly enjoy establishing a rapport and relationship with candidates. It is especially rewarding to support them, from initial frontscreen right the way through to their job offer. I love that my position also utilises my interests in psychology, to understand candidates and their motivations. There is also a creative aspect when suggesting candidates for a position – thinking outside the box to find the right fit which might not be obvious straight away.

And not work related…Who’s the most famous person you’ve ever met?

I was once an extra in a film with Johnny Depp and Jude Law!
