A Little About Julie
I recently started at The Work-Shop as a Trainee Recruitment Consultant. For the past three years, I’ve been traveling around the UK in a converted van, running, hiking, and swimming, all while exploring new places with my Springer Spaniel. In the winter, we rested on the Isle of Wight with my husband.
Before that, I worked as a Personal Trainer for seven years, which included navigating the challenges of the Covid pandemic. During that time, I realized I needed a change and decided to explore new career options.
How (and Why) Did You Get Into Recruitment?
After my travels and several temporary jobs, I was ready to settle down. We moved off the Isle of Wight, and I started looking for a new career. I visited The Work-Shop to chat with Georgina about potential opportunities, and she immediately felt I would be a great fit for recruitment. After an interview with Shelley, I knew this was the right path for me. I love talking to people all day, and I’m excited to help connect candidates with their ideal roles.
What Does Your Day-to-Day Role Entail?
My role involves searching job boards for new CVs, reaching out to candidates who might be a good fit for the roles we have available, and sending their CVs and profiles to potential employers. I also follow up with candidates about their interview progress, with the goal of helping them secure their ideal job.
Are There Any Qualifications You Have or Are Working Towards?
Before starting this role, I wasn’t entirely sure of the career direction I wanted to take, so I began training in Project Management and earned the Project Fundamentals Qualification as well as the PRINCE2 Foundation certification. Now, as I settle into recruitment, I’m focused on completing relevant training to ensure I provide the best service possible to both clients and candidates.
What Do You Like Best About Recruitment/Your Job?
I enjoy learning new things and working with people, which is why I find recruitment so rewarding. I get to build relationships, talk to new people every day, and assist them in finding a role they love and thrive in. It’s fulfilling to help others take the next step in their careers.
And Not Work-Related… Who Is the Most Famous Person You’ve Met?
One of my funniest and most embarrassing moments was after running the London Marathon. While waiting for the tube with my running club friends, we noticed Paula Radcliffe getting on the same train. In our excitement, we harassed her into taking a picture with us. She was incredibly kind and gracious about it, despite our enthusiasm!
