“We are thrilled to have raised a total of £1,480 for our chosen charities which has made the whole experience worthwhile. We are so grateful for everyone’s support and we hope to have even more success when we take part next year!“
Our Director Shelley and Branch Manager Rebecca recently took part in the ‘Virgin Virtual London Marathon’. This was the first time that the mass Virgin Money London Marathon and the virtual event took place simultaneously. While more than 40,000 people were running the traditional London Marathon route from Blackheath to Westminster, a further 40,000 were taking on 26.2 miles where ever they were in the world. Our girls went from Sandbanks in Poole, through Christchurch, past Hengistbury Head before finishing back in Poole Park!
Having run the Bournemouth ½ marathon I vowed I would never run in an organised event again but when the opportunity arose to run with the YMCA in the London Marathon remotely and also raise money for our chosen charity LEAF, I couldn’t refuse, Rebecca was an amazing running partner, we didn’t smash the record for a marathon but the money we raised has gone to two great causes and we are just so proud of that.

Shelley and Rebecca were raising money for YMCA Bournemouth, a registered charity that provides local services and projects that give children, young people and vulnerable individuals hope for a better future and the means to achieve it, as well as Leaf Leukaemia Educating and Fundraising, a charity close to our heart that supports blood cancer patients and their families in Dorset and Hampshire.
WOW what an amazing day! Such an experience. The last 5 miles were a killer and not much fun when the rain started to pour, but we powered through and are delighted with the monies we have been able to raise.
